X-Wing - Saw's Renegades

Sticking with 6mm Sci-fi, but with a slight pivot to a galaxy far, far away...

We recently got back into The X-Wing Miniatures Games, after a brief period of collecting dust. Sticking with v1.0 of the game as none of us need more cardboard in our lives, and as i've mentioned before, my gaming group never massively got into 'the meta' and all of the wild exploits that came at the end of the v1.0 games' life.

We have kicked off a campaign, set loosely in the time of the Galactic Civil War and have wrapped some narrative around what is effective an escalation type system, where we all start restricted to rookie pilots (PS1) and unlock veterans and unique characters through winning battles. This is really refreshing as it gives us the chance to play with pilots/ships rarely fielded.

Please see my friend's blog to follow the campaign > http://thebissler.blogspot.com/

One essential purchase for me as the Rebel player was the Saw's Renegades expansion - which 'fixes' the classic T-65 X-Wing and newer U-Wing featured in Rogue One.

The only downer to my eyes was the paint job. The black/white pattern should have been striking, but for me it just lacked excitement, and looked out of place with the rest of my fleet. (I also attempted to fix the sticky S-Foils on the X-Wing, and failed miserably)

So I've given a very quick and dirty going over, and whilst it is by no means perfect, I can explain this away as some slap-dash Rebel workmanship, and i was happy to get painting again and get something knocked out in a couple of hours, rather than have it sitting tormenting me half painted for the next 10 years...

Also - full disclosure, i nicked the schemes from a google image search, and imitated them poorly, so apologies and thanks if you were the originator of my inspiration.

Epic - Banelord!

So just a few days after giving up the search and making my own Fake-Banelord, i manage to snag 2 kits of the real deal for a decent price!

Anyhoo, i'm treating the one below as a test piece, i didn't bother stripping the thick black paint on it, so the details are a bit soft to say the least. It was my first time trying to paint flames, and suffice to say that more practice is needed! no idea how the GW 'Eavy Metal team do those stylised flames on the box art, but i guess they are just better painters for a start!

I rushed through it in a day and in the down time i painted up Luke Skywalker - Jedi Knight for Imperial Assault/Frostgrave.

With the addition of Maul I've now got enough force users to create 3 war bands for the Star Wars Frostgrave mod, which i intend on running shortly - just gathering up some scenery to use in addition to the Battle Systems stuff i picked up last year. (more on that below!)

And finally, a group of re-painted Knights (maybe not quite finished!) and a Wizard from Zombicide Black Plague - who i think will work well in Frostgrave too.

I'm alive! - Eveything

I'm going to try and get back in the habit of regular postings, as i have been ramping up the painting progress lately, but i'm struggling to keep track of it all!

Most exciting news is that I've taken a dive into the world of airbrushing, grabbed a cheap package from Amazon and getting the hang of it now. Really handy for priming/base coating as the Scottish weather has been unpredictable to say the least. Can also see it being a great tool for getting tanks etc painted up.

Over the last few months I've been painting Star Wars Imperial Assault, Epic 40k, Flames of War and building some terrain, so just going to dump what photos i have below, and hopefully i'll be better at documenting stuff as it happens in the future!

Coming up;

I've ordered the Flames of War v4 Starter set as I've got a soft spot for World War 2 desert tank warfare.

5 models left to paint from the Imperial Assault - Return to Hoth expansion

Epic Ork slow grow army is coming along, a couple more clans and some vehicles and i can call it 'done'

Epic Imperial Guard, Space Marine and Chaos - finishing a few bits off and then i can eBay the excess as i don't think i'll ever realistically use it all.

Terrain - going to have a clear out so that i'm left with only what i need for a 6x4 Desert, Urban and Temperate, 6mm, 15mm and 28mm tables as it all takes up soooo much space!

Imperial Assault!

Shifting to a different Empire for a moment...

Spotted a partially painted boxed set of FFG's Imperial Assault game pop up on ebay for what i considered a decent price.

Snapped it up and now i have the task of completing this fella's work.

Looks like we both watch Sorasto's painting guides > https://www.youtube.com/user/Sorastro
So the task was a little less daunting (just had the pressure of keeping the high standard up!)

Can't say I've quite matched his cleanness, but if i can knock out 10 models in a day i'm happy!

My contribution so far (only 12 models and the AT-ST to go!);
