First Strike! - 40k Kill Team

I had recently given up my man-cave as temporary cat accommodation (combing that with working away I've been a bit slow on the old painting/gaming eh, game), however after a bit of house re-shuffling I've found her her own space and reclaimed the 'cave for myself!

With all the Kill Team hype going around i decided to cleanse my 6mm painting palette with some 28mm (or what ever the hell size they are now!)

There is a boxed set called 'First Strike' designed to be the cheap first hit from the GW dealers to hook the youngsters in. it contains 3 Nurgle/Death Guard Plague Marines, 6 Poxwalkers, 3 Primaris Marines, and 3 Reivers (Primaris Scouts/Assault guys i guess!)

for £20 this pretty much gives you 2 full Kill Teams, and i just fancied painting them, so no more justification required.

I've done a Marine in my (slightly improved) Dark Angels scheme, with the Reiver i've imagined him as part of the Raven Wing, or at least a more stealthy/ninja Dark Angel dressed all in black/grey.

For the Death Guard i opted for more of a Legion colour scheme, but with plenty of rot added. And for the Poxwalkers i went with the same scheme as my Genestealer Cult/Rogue Trader crew - to indicate they were once part of the same ship crew that became corrupted.

Anyhoo, I just need to finish off the basing, and decide what i want to do with the other Marines, as i'm tempted to do them in a different scheme, possibly Imperial Fists?!

Oh! and as a wee bonus - an old school Lightning Claw'd up Deathwing Terminator (something i painted in-between posts at some point last month)

Necromunda - Coming Soon!

Ok, looks like we are finally (nearly) ready to kick off a Necromunda campaign.

I picked up some bits on eBay, including a decent amount of Cawdor, Ratskin and Original Box stuff, for not much £, and to complement that, a nice 4x4 city themed gaming mat.

I have to say, Cawdor wouldn't have been my first choice, but the minis were effectively free, and they will mix well with my Chaos cultists if i need to expand the gang later. (still need to base them up properly, but here's a sneak peak)

Support! - Heralds of Ruin

Happy new year!

Anyway... Having vowed i wouldn't buy anything new, and instead concentrate on painting what i had in my collection (with the aim to sell on the excess) I once again find myself sniping stuff on eBay like the bad old days...

But i need it! Or rather my squishy guardsmen need it.

I figured they wouldn't last long out there without some beefy support, so decided to hunt down a Sentinel, Ogryn and weapons team for them.

The sentinel i found was pre-painted in a scheme that fits my own, so figured it would fit right in after a bit of basing, giving me the chance to freshly paint the other two.

They were both done from start to finish today (don't you love holidays!) and i'm really happy with them, the Ogryn was great fun to paint, love these older sculpts - might need to get a few more! (there is a dedicated Heralds of Ruin Ogryn list after all!)

Next up I've got a painted Chimera and Commissar on the way, and a hectic week of gaming - so if i remember i'll post up some photos/battle reports.

The Bar-L Penal Legion - Heralds of Ruin

Quick update - Heralds of Ruin (and possibly lots of spare time over Christmas) has given me a great kick up the arse to get some painting done.

Now these guys are going to serve me well as conscripts for my Imperial Guard, Armsmen for my Rogue Trader, and Gangers for Necromunda.

Extremely quick and dirty paint job with a bunch of head swaps from my bits-box help them look like a bunch of rag-tag cannon fodder.

Also, a bonus Ratling sniper for my IG which i knocked out while the washes were drying.

Then a group shot of the IG Kill-Team so far...

More soon!

Kill Team Assemble! - Heralds of ruin

In a bid to branch out, our little gaming group is looking at other games to play - ideally without having to invest too much time or money, using stuff we have laying around.

Necromunda is still on the cards for next year, but in the mean time 'Heralds of Ruin' the free, fan made 40k skirmish rule set has piqued our interest.

I've never played much 40k, but have picked up quite a few models along the way, so this is perfect for me. It gives me the chance to spruce up some of the stuff i have sitting in boxes, half-painted and isn't too daunting either.

I reckon i probably have enough models to run 7-8 factions, which is great as i don't need to spend (an additional) penny!

The games run at 200 points, which is generally about 5-20 models. My first foray (as i don't know what i'm doing) will be to take the ever dependable Space Marines, with a bit of each unit type thrown in to see how they work!

It uses a campaign system, so you can build your pool of models over time and i have plenty more guys in storage eager for a new lick of paint and a re-basing!
