Grimdark Future - Scouts and Machine Cult

More progress through the big box of gifted minis...

I'm calling the Space Marine/Battle Brother Scouts done, and the same for the Ad-Mech/Machine Cult troops.

I would have spent a bit more time on them but I've been feeling ill the last couple of days and just wanted them off the table, plus in game I expect them to be squishy, so don't want to pour too much love into them to see them destroyed :D

N.B. I will go back and tidy them up when I feel better as I can see some annoying stuff in the photos now.

2 posts in a month! Like an unstoppable leviathan!

Not only 2 posts, but 2 completed minis!

I think I've finally found my 'style' for painting, and i'm pretty happy with it - who knows if this will change in time, as the way miniatures are painted definitely follow a fashion of sorts. I'm really enjoying the results of bold base colours, washing, then highlighting with strong edge highlights.
For one, it is pretty damn quick! the mini below had been sitting primed for a week before i found time to start painting. and it was all done and dusted in 1.5hrs, including drying and basing.
For two, i think it looks great on the table, at playing distance - making bold highlights is something i'd neglected in the past, but now i see why people do it. It can look a bit of mess close up, but from 2-3ft away it really 'pops'.

So this little war band i'm building (for no particular purpose) is now about 1/3rd complete. I'm enjoying the narrative too. This chap was a collection of bits in my box last week. The body of the famed Ultramarine Scout, whose name escapes me (edit: Telion). a Tau Pulse carbine and arm, a space marine hand and space marine Sgt. head.

But now!

He's a veteran scout who was abandoned on a Tau controlled planet, he hid for months evading them, and eventually surrendered to them, they learned to respect them, and when the planet was eventually invaded again (by... eh, i don't know, lets say the Imperium?) he took up arms and fought with the Tau, and helped lead them to victory. Only to be eventually captured by the Inquisition and given a choice to serve with them on a witch hunt that needed a good tracker, or face extermination.

Or some such nonsense! (borrowing heavily from dances with wolves of course)

Anyhoo - after these guys are done i'll be moving on to the New Neophyte Genestealer Hybrids, which i thought looked so good i actually bought 'new' models from GW, which i vowed i'd never do again.

Epic Eldar Update 2

I've managed to Source a load of old school tanks (Wave Serpents, Doom Weavers, Warp Hunters etc...) from the TacCmd Forums, so that has spurred me on to get the basic units of my Biel-Tan Eldar force finished.

Still no sign of the Phantom titan i 'won' on eBay, and can't find any Revenants for sale, but it should give me a bit more time to sort out the bulk of the army first.

A few pics below of the various units in different states, I'm giving the scouts a little bit of concealment with some mobile ruins/trees (a shrubbery?!) :)

More later...

Epic Update

Back from holiday - spent the last week laying on a Greek beach working on my tan when i should have been indoors painting!

as penance the first thing i did after unpacking was finished off some support for my Ultramarines and Imperial fists armies;

I decided to give the 'Fists the vindicators as it seems to suit their fluff as siege masters, and i give the Ultramarines the predators for some anti-armour options and the Thunderhawk to get those scouts in deep behind enemy lines.

Hopefully this will spur me on to finish these forces off once and for all, as i still need an infantry company for the imperial fists, then i can get started with some Titans/Knights that I've got gathering dust!

So without further ado...

Epic Ultramarine Progress Update 2

Two Posts in one day?! I don't see this happening much.

Anyhoo, not much chat - bit of a hangover meant a lot of productive painting time this afternoon. I've completed my Ultramarine battle company, Scouts, Chaplain, Apothecary and Librarian (and their respective Rhinos) to a standard I'm happy with - its not going to win any Golden Daemon awards (do they still do that?!) but I think they are certainly 'Table-Top' standard. (now looking at the photos I've spotted a few things to do - lights on some rhinos, and a bit of basing to tidy up!)
