Epic - Chaos Daemons

I've been on a bit of an eBay spree of late, but it's yielded some decent results...

I've picked up daemons for my chaos forces, most of which were painted fairly decently, meaning all that needed done/still to do is do a bit of touching up and re-base to bring them in line.

I've ended up with 3 units of Flesh Hounds, which is probably more than i'll ever field, but i'm happy to have them.

It something that still surprises me - the sheer number and variety of units that exist for each faction in Space Marine/Net Epic.

I naively assumed that i'd be able to paint up my Chaos plastics, grab a few metal models and i'd have a full army, with all the options. Where as really, all I've done is scratch the surface for some of the powers.

That said, i'm practising restraint, and in a similar fashion to my other armies, i'm drawing a line here and calling it 'done (for now)'. The big push is over and now i can spend some time hopefully playing with them, and trying out different combos, before i get the itch to add anything else to the pool.

I think this is pretty healthy. whilst i'm sure i could seek to ensure i had 3 or more of every unit, and have a complete collection with no restrictions on what to put on the table, i actually strive to not do this. It is the way i enjoyed the game as a kid, where i got to play with what ever new units my brother brought home and painted up, and after playing battle after battle, deciding on my favourites and forming a real bond with them (which is how i got back in this mess 20+ years later!).

I think this extends to lots of hobbies, and life in general. If you are given too much choice it can be overwhelming, or there could be a temptation to optimise, or 'min/max' as the kids would say.
This would lead to some things being sidelined, and never played, instead being present simply for completeness of a collection.

Once again I battle with my own conflicting desires to become more minimal/intentional in all aspects of my life Vs. being a nostalgic adult, with disposable income, part of the 'cult of the new' and trying to be a completionist.

The struggle is real!

Anyway, apologies for the psychology lecture, on to the pictures! also as an aside, i'm actually getting a game in with them this weekend, after a period of what seems like forever being a hermit, so i'll try and get some photos/after action report on that.

Waaaaagghhhh!!! - Epic Orks

Once again its been a while since my last update, but rest assured, i've been a busy bee with painting - i'd go as far as to say that i've bitten off more than i can chew (again!)

So, here's some snaps off my Ork horde so far (in honour of painting my Spleen rippas today) - I've not really concentrated on them much, just picking off a few units now and again when i get bored of painting the browns and greys of my IG force! I got a bunch of them painted on eBay a long time ago, and they were portioned up for E40k or Epic Armageddon, so i've spent a bit of time sourcing and painting the additional missing models to make the squads up to SM2/NetEpic spec.

If i'm being self critical i'd say i wasn't paying the orks as much attention to detail as these great sculpts deserve, so hopefully i'll sort that out, and i need to make more banners/flags for them.

I've got an absolute mountain of green skins to paint, but i think i'll prioritise the Goff Clan, Evil Sunz Clan, Fighta Bommas, Flak Wagons and Gargant next!

In other news - i've got a load of imperial flier proxies to paint - so expect some pics of the test models soon.

Epic - Eldar, IG and Titan updates!

Hi,

been working on some odds and ends, adding to some existing forces and generally pottering around aimlessly.

Photos came out a bit dark - need to get back in to my editing I think!

So without further ado...

Warp Spiders and Firestrom AA support for my Eldar;

Some old school Death-strike Missile Launchers for my desert IG (magnetised to allow for missle flight)

And a custom carapace landing pad and recon speeder for my titans, also magnetised to allow the weapons to be swapped out.

Kaine!!! (Epic Eldar Update)

I'm one trade closer to completing my Biel-Tan Warhost!

This morning i collected my Avatar (Epic 40k version, he's tiny!!!) and a squadron of Nightwings.

I was never a fan of the original Nightwing sculpt, the gun on top always looked weird to me, but i'll paint them up anyway for completeness!

Next up, and finally hopefully;

'twas the night before Christmas...

Completed a nice trade where by i got rid of some Epic Armageddon Orks which i'd probably never use and got some Imperial Armour and Thunderbolts.

As my Eldar force is in sight of the finishing line (just a couple of Tempests and Dire Avengers to do) I thought i should make a (re)start on my Imperial guard army.

I did a test pattern a few months ago after changing my mind about the original 'Olive Drab' i had started painting, and i much prefer it.

I've always been a fan of desert camouflage patterns and it reminds me of WW2 Africa, and modern day Middle East conflicts. It should also contrast well with the Green/White Eldar, Blue Ultramarines, Yellow Imperial Fists, Red Blood Angels and White/Blue World Eaters...

Anyhoo, here's what's on the bench;

P.S - Yesterday I was lucky enough to win a copy of Spartan Games new 10mm tabletop game - Planetfall, which is part of the Firestorm Armada universe. I've heard it's been touted as the 'new epic' - anyhoo, once i get it i'll get the units painted up and have a few test games!

Epic - Eldar Reinforcements

The Web-way has opened up, and reinforcements are pouring through to bolster my Biel-Tan forces...

Having penciled in my first game of NetEpic in the new year it is high time that i complete my half-finished Biel-Tan army.

So tonight i've based up the units needed to complete my Spirit Host and my Wind Rider Host, with some support from weapons platforms, aspect warriors, scouts and a Warlock Titan.

I'm also very excited to have finally sources some Revenant Titans! and a detachment of Tempests. this should push my options up to about 6k worth of space elves in old (SM2) money.

I reckon a FireStorm, Avatar and some Nightwings would give me back something close to the old army i used to field against my brother all those years ago!

Epic - Pre-Heresy World Eaters Update 3

Had another hour to spare mid week and started the remainder of the Rhinos/Land Raiders (just need to do the tracks and details to finish)

Also rescued a couple of guys i had steeping in Detol (make-shift paint stripper) and i'm adding them to my traitors...

A Storm Hammer and a Warlord Titan, which is getting a 'Storm Lords' paint job.

Thinking once i add some dreadnoughts, or Robots this suitably "Space Marine 1/AT" era force will be complete.

Epic - Pre-Heresy World Eaters Update 2

We are Legion!

Tactical Company completed (just need to tidy up the bases and rhinos!) with support from Terminators and Thudd guns.
Not bad for a couple of mornings painting.

More land raiders and a super heavy by the end of the week hopefully.

Epic - Overgrown City

Been re-playing 'The Last of Us' recently, which has some beautifully realised post-apocalyptic near-future overgrown city settings, combined with recently seeing this Epic Eldar diorama > http://www.coolminiornot.com/366389 and this 10mm Dropzone commander board > http://i.imgur.com/GF5WQ.jpg
Has inspired me to have a bash at my own overgrown city board.

As usual my ambitions far outstretched both my abilities and my patience, but i think its a decent attempt, and I've left plenty of scope to improve and add more detail further down the line. (also, in the photos the paint is still wet and the water effects haven't set, but i was too impatient to shoot it)

During the process i took so snaps in a project log stylee, showing its initial design, then the addition of the details. I've made the trees removable to make it more gameplay friendly.

Also, there some glossy pics at the end depicting an imperial scout force seconds away from an eldar ambush among the ruins...
